Those in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Washington, DC. can participate in the 27th Annual Potomac River Watershed Cleanup on April 11, 2015. In 2014 there were 671 sites reporting from those areas.

Support Other's Cleanup Efforts
There are some creative solutions out there. For instance the Ocean Cleanup claims to have developed the world's first feasible method to clean the gyres of plastic, using currents to its advantage.
